EVALUATION PROCESS :)



I consider that the evaluation process has to be applied during the all classes, because the teachers evaluated children and how much they have learned. As we know, the evaluation process is continuous and has to be applied during the whole course. 

I would applied a short test (5 items) at the end of each class. Using pictures, matching pictures with words, etc. At the end of the course I would apply a test. I do not consider that a test can measure everything or all the content that our students have learned. But, it is important to apply it. 

In one of my final activities I will apply an evaluation. I will include most of the topics that our students have learn.


Finally, I can say that I have enjoyed a lot to work with children, it was a new experience for me and I have learned a lot. It was amazing to work with children because I design the activities in order they learn but they play ans get fun at the same time. I do not consider that I will work with children in the future, but the experience that I have got is awesome.

I have learned about children' learning process, the children stages, fine and grossor skills, and the techniques that we can use according their ages, likes, and what they enjoy.






Food and Drinks

The teacher Ingrid started the class singing the welcome song, students know the song and they enjoy to sing the song!

After that, she used a box, students get a piece of paper from the box, and they discovered a previous vocabulary word. I consider that It is a good activity in order to do a review. Students felt interested because they wanted to participate and took a piece of paper. I like it a lot!


Then She used a puppet called "TOTI" It got students' attention. The teacher interact with students and with Toti. She taught the vocabulary words using the puppet. I like it because students were interested in the activity because they see the puppet and the teacher modified her voice. 




Then, she worked in a grammar part asking Is it good or bad for you? She used a "secret box" that got students' attention because they wanted to get an object from the box. I like the activity because students felt motivated to participate and they enjoyed a lot. 



After that Teacher Merci continued with the class, she  asked if food or drinks are bad or good for our health. Then, she formed groups of 3 and 4 students and they work in a puzzle. They formed a picture related to the vocabulary words, and she asked the question.





Then, Students checked a list of food and drinks and completed the missing letter. After that they went to the supermarket and got the picture related to the vocabulary word and put it into the bag. I like this activity because they practice the vocabulary words, also they felt motivated to participate because they run in order to get the picture. 

My case of study:


I consider that Michelle has to improve a lot, because she participates in the class all the time, when the teacher ask questions she answers it. She really likes to be in the English class and the fact that she is participating in this course has help her a lot in her treatment. She received the final grades at school and she got good results in her grades. Michelle's mother told me that the psicologist says that learning English has help her a lot because she is involve in a new activity and she interacts with other students and teachers.



Actions :)

This time Raul started the class singing the welcome song and he added more movements to the song. I like it because students were involved into the activity. 



After that the teacher did a review of the activity using colored papers with their names. Each student took a piece of paper and mentioned the vocabulary word that appears in the page. I like this activity because students remembered the vocabulary words of previous classes. 




After that students felt motivated to participated in the class because Raul designed an activity in which students compete boys versus girls. They showed interested in the activity and they practice the vocabulary words about actions. 



Teacher Juan started to do a review in order students internalize the target language. Students and teacher did the action and repeat it. I consider that it is important that students internalize the vocabulary words making actions that will help them to remember the definitions. After that, students play a spinning wheel about actions. The student that was point it out he/she went to take a flash card and has to mention the vocabulary word.



After that they play the "hot hat" and they passed the hat around them. Students made movements during the song and the teacher selected volunteers to participate in the activity. 



At the end, the teacher finished the class singing a song about actions. The teacher did the actions and mention the vocabulary words, and students followed him. I like the activities that they made because students enjoyed a lot and praticipated into the class. 

I consider that they have improved a lot, and I like how they teach the topic. 

My case of study:

Michelle cannot come to the class. but the students have improve a lot. They show confidence during the class, they participated a lot. In the review activity they answer and remember the target language. Also, they follow instructions as commands. I like how children have developed their abilities in our classes.




Clothing Items

Gloria started the class making a variation using pictures about emotions in faces. Students enjoyed the class singing the song. Then i really like the presentation of the topic, because Gloria presented the vocabulary words about clothing items in a Laundry. 



After that, students worked in dressing activity, gloria mentioned the clothing items and students dress the bodies. I like this activity because Gloria calls by names to the bodies, At the beginning of the activity children wanted to dress the bodies, but after that Gloria took the control and guided students in order to follow instructions.  


I consider that Gloria has improved a lot, because she control in a better way the students, and show more confident during the teaching process. 



In the case of Luis, he started the continued the class with the practicing parts. He started with the memory game activity. Luis gave instructions to students, and they felt motivated in order to participate, I consider that this kind of activity was succesful because students learn and enjoy at the same time. 

I like the way in which Luis manage the class and the activities. I consider that he has improved a lot. 



After that Luis continued giving clothing items and students dress the clothes. They enjoy the activity, I noticed that they can practice the activities. I consider that it's important that students have to be involve in the class in order to they can learn and participate. Luis finished the class singing a song making a "rap".  I like it because Luis showed confident and students enjoyed the class a lot. 



My case of study:

 Michelle cannot come to the class but talking about the others. I think that they enjoy the class, I consider that it's important to create a good environment in order students feel confident of participate in  the class. They felt motivated because the activities gave them the oportunity of participate. 

They are more involved in the class, and they feel comfortable, it is important to keep the discipline in the class. 

Days of the Week Class :)

Monica started with the class singing the welcome song 





 

She uses the "spinning wheel" in order to make a review of the vocabulary that they had learned. It was great because most of students answer correctly. 

I really like the presentation of the topic because she organized a chart with the names of the days. Students participated during the class, Monica show enthusiasm, and she controlled all the students. 

Her tone of voice propitiates the students' attention.

The activities that she uses were interesting for students. 


Then, Gisselt continued teaching the class. She presented a calendar in the board, students mention the days of the week.

I consider that it is a good ativity related with the topic. I like it because he taught at the same time the numbers from 10 to 20.

It is important to manage the group of students with authority, I consider that she has to improve her tone of voice, because sometimes students did not follow instructions. In the second practice students did not focus on the days on the week. They fucused more in the train. So, it is important to consider the time, and it was so extended.








 Then, Cristela continues with the class. She did a good activity in which students had the oportunity of participate actively during the class. She has to improve the tone of voice and give instructions in a confident way. Because students got out the teacher's control. 

At the end, we know that students feel confortable in the class and we need to separate them, because when they form groups they make disorder. 










My Case of Study:

Michelle did not attend the class. But according to what the students did I can say  that students feel comfortable in the class, and they know what they can do and with who. It is importan to keep discipline in the classroom. Also, Students participate during the class, they felt motivated in order to participate. Children demonstrated how much they have progress in the classes. I like it!



Workshop :)




This workshop was awesome because we learned a lot. Everyone presented a teaching techniques in order to we apply in our classes during the Practicum I with children. 





1. I started the workshop using MEMORY GAMES.  


This is a useful activity that can be use with children, it is interesting for them because cards are laid out in a grid face down, and players take turns flipping pairs of cards over. 



You can apply to basic, intermediate or advance level, as warm up, presentation or practice. It can be used with pictures and students will match pictures, or picture-words(name of the picture), and vocabulary- vocabulary. 



I suggested to use a big memory game in the board or in a wall, in order all the class can participate and the teacher control the all class.

2. BOXES by Gisselt Romero



I consider that using boxes is a good activity, because as teacher the budget that we have is limited, so we can't spend a lot money on creating materials for a our classes. We can get boxes and do not spend money on that. We can recicle materials. 

This activity can be used as warm up, using balls. Students point it out the boxes and they can develop their fine and grossor motor skills. 




Gisselt prepared the boxes with pictures related with animals, she explained that teacher will mention a name of an animal  and students throw the ball into the box that contains the correct picture. 




I think that is useful to practice vocabulary and grammar. I would apply it using a gift box that contains materials, objects related to the class.

3. Puppets by Luis


I think that using puppets is a interesting activity that can get students' attention because of the materials and the change of voice that the teacher make. Also, the teacher interact with students.

Luis explained that puppets can be made with paper, socks, and fabric, and you can buy them on the super marker.

This technique can be use as warm up,, presentation or practice. You can teach vocabulary, tell a story, or teach grammar part. The teacher can change the voice and ask questions to students. It make it interesting.

4. Spinning Wheel

It is a good technique, students like this activity because of the colors that are use in the wheel. The teacher can design the wheel in different sections (numbers, colors, vocabulary, etc) Each students will pass in front and spin the wheel. 


5. Telling Stories by Raul Montoya


He used a "portfolio" with pictures related to the story. He suggested that we take into account the gestures, emotions, A good technique is to change the story in order students are interested in the activity.



6. Name Tags by Ingrid Girón


This activity can be organized at the beginning of the class, in order to sit students in different way, We can use piece of papers with different colors. 

Another way to use it is for take the attendance, is a creative way to do it.

7. Modeling Clay by Cristela Navarro


I consider that modeling clay is a good activity because students apply creativity. Students can work in the class modeling different objects: flowers, animals, etc. 


8. Songs and Chants by Juan Escobar

Singing a song is one of the most interesting activitites for children because they like to sing, dance and get their attention in the class. 

Our partner taught us the song "Days of the week" 
and the teacher taught another way to sing the alphabet song. 





9. Disposable Plates 

Using this activity is interesting because students follow teacher's intructions in order to form the disponsable plate. It can be used as practice in the class and get students attention. 



It can be used in order to teach vocabulary words, grammar, etc. She applied this with the family members.

10. Recicled Paper by Juan Carlos Henriquez

This is a useful technique because we can re-use materials, Jc created "Shakers" that can be used in a song or in otder to get students attention. 



He used an empty can, paper, glue and he did shakers with those materials. Most of the time we do not have money to invest in our materials, so we can recycle material and use it. 



I consider that all the techniques that were presented in this workshop are useful for us in order to apply new ideas for the class, and improve our teaching practice.
