5th Class: My Body

This is the last class in the second period. It was a very active class. Jc and me were in charge of the class. We prepared and plannified activities in order our children feel good and excited for participate in class. We prepared the classroom in order children feel confortable. We put it off the desks. 

I started the class singing the song "Hello, How are you today?" we add new body movements during the class, and children enjoyed a lot. 


 The warm-up activity was " Looking for the letter".
Students have to run in order to look for the letter in the ball and put in the other side of the classroom. Students felt motivated during the activity. 





Then I asked about the colors, the vocabulary words about "FAMILY" and then they answer the questions and participated during the class.





After that we work in a "body puzzle", I ask about the body parts and they answered, but they have pronounciation mistakes. I corrected their mistakes. 

 Then, I work with Flashcards and we practiced " Do you have? Yes, I do and No, I don't 


Teacher Jc continued with the class, with the activity 
"Roll the dice" Students identified the color and the number they had to take a picture and mention it.














Then, teacher Jc developed the activity "Simon Says" It was amazing, because he uses a monkey as king and he called him Simon. Students follow the activity and he gave "Simon" to others students in order they produce sentences. 





Rocio, Michelle and Alan participated with Simon says. 











Then, Teacher Jc developed the song "Shake your body" We really enjoyed, I say "We" because students enjoy it and Jc and me.. It was amazing. 




We finish the class with the song Bye, bye.





Things that teachers can improve:

  • Be independent with each activity
  • Do not rescue each other
  • Speak loud

My case of study: 

Michelle work very active, she participate during the all class. I really like the way in which she speak and dance. She answered very good.  She has progressed a lot. She has improved her vocabulary and she really internalize the vocabulary words and the knowlegde. 

She is taking medication, and she is improving herself. Her mother mention that she has improve her behavior, and she works a lot at school, and she concentrates good.

Warm-up
“Looking the letters”

Students will work in group of 5, teacher will use a pool that will contain small balls with some letters. The teacher will assign a word to each group for example: 1 stgroup father, 2 nd group mother and    3 rd group sister. Also, students will run from a desk to the pool and every student will take a ball in order to form a word that will represent a family member (father, mother and sister). When the all the groups have the words the teacher will ask what is the work per each group and what colors the balls are and how many balls they have they will count the balls, how  the word is spelled.


Aim of the activity: to review the alphabet, colors, numbers and family members
Type of learner: V – K – A
Interaction: teacher- students
Materials: pool, balls with the letters of the alphabet and 6 traffic cones.

Presentation



The teacher will present the parts of the body (mouth, nose, head, eye, ear, hand, arm, knee, leg, foot) with a body puzzle and she will say the parts of the body and will form a body on the board. Also students will do the same, form a new body.

Then, the teacher will show flashcards about the parts of the body. Students will say the names and practice the grammar “Do you have? Yes, I do. No, I do not.” The teacher will give a piece of paper to each student that contains a part of the body and she will ask individually a questions according to the picture.  For example: Do you have three arms? Do you have two heads? etc. and students will say yes, I do… no, I do not.



Aim of the activity: to encounter the parts of the body.

Type of learner: V – A – K

Interaction: teacher- students.

Materials: a foamy boy and girl bodies, flashcards, pieces of paper that contain pictures about the parts of the body and charts with the grammar.

Practice 1

“Roll the dice”.  The teacher will model how students will roll the dice and will say that according to the color and number students will choose the task and this practice will be a whole class practice.

Aim of the activity: to encounter and internalize the body parts and to review of numbers and family members.

Materials: dice, flashcards with body parts, family members and some numbers.

Practice 2

“Simon says”. The teacher will explain the activity saying that students follow what Simon says, for example: Simon says touch your head, Simon says touch your nose and so on, until they get ready to change rolls. Some students will roll play what Simon says. Also, the teacher will review some prepositions using whit some balls associated to the body parts and students will do what Simon says for example: Simon says put the ball in your hand, Simon says put the ball behind your head and so on until they practice the preposition learned in class. In here, students will also change the roll with the teacher and the teacher will be a guide if students have troubles doing that exercise.


Aim of the activity: to practice the body parts, to review some prepositions and some colors.

“Shake your body song”. The teacher will sign the song with the students and they will practice it. Also, the teacher will say to the students that we will include some of the body parts studying in class.

4th Class: Pets

It is the class number 4, students have progressed a lot, they are confortable in classes, they show confidence and excited in order to learn more. 



The class started with the welcome song "How are you today?" Teachers added body movements in the activity. Then, Teacher Juan presented the vocabulary words using a power point presentation. 




After that he presented flash cards, students spelled the letters of the words and he asked about the colors of the pets. He look for the previous knowledge asking about the vocabulary words.  ]I like when students identified the names of the pets and then they passed in front and pasted the words in a purple chart. 




After that, Raul continued with the class, they participated in the sharks are coming activity. After that students work in a pictodictionary. They wrote the vocabulary words and paste the picture in each page of the mini-book.


Thing that teachers can improve:

  • Speak loud
  • Speak slow
  • Take into account the time
  • Think in the objectives of the activity.
  • Show enthusiasm

3rd Class: My Family !!! :)

 It is the 3rd class that the children had taken, they are more comfortable in class, they feel motivated to learn more.

 The teachers were Ingrid and Merci. They started the class singing a previous song called: "Hello, how are you today?". Students remembered the lyrics of the song. 




Then, the teacher Merci started the class teaching the members of the family using a power point presentation. Students were interested in the class because of the pictures. Teacher Merci ask them about the members of the family and they have previous knowledge.






After that students worked as a group matching words with pictures. They write a line in order to connect the words. 



They interacted with their classmates and participated. At the  end of the class they developed an activity in which they form the members of the family. They spelled the letters of the vocabulary words.





Things that teachers can improve:


  • Speak loud
  • Give clear instructions
  • Keep control on students
  • Show enthusiasm
  • Think about the objective of the activity



My case of study:


Michelle feel interested in the class, she always answered the questions that teachers made. Also, she likes to participate in the activities. When the teachers did a review about the topics, Michelle was the only one that answers the questions about locations. She is not shy, in order to participate and answer the questions. 

She progress in each class, and she learn a lot because she really likes English.





2nd Class: At home!

It was the second class, When I enter into the classroom I noticed that the classroom was decorated in an appopiate way, I looks great!

The topic was at home the teachers taught vocabulary related to home. 



 Teacher Gisselt started the class with a song and a power point presentation, children felt interested because of the materials that she presented. 





 Then, she teaches the location concepts: Behind, in, on and under.

Children practiced a lot those concepts.

 Then, Cristela continues teaching the class reading a story.





 The floor was señalizing with diferent colors, when children hear a location concept they run to the line and picture that represents  the concept.






 Teacher Monica continues with the class. She presented an interesting activity. She show herself with confidence, she got the control of the students and they follow the instructions.

 Teacher monica capts students' attention, they practice and answer right 











Things that teachers can improve:


  • Modify the voice, speak loud.
  • Control the students during the class
  • Pronounce the vocabulary in a correct way
  • Speak slow and model instructions
  • Show enthusiasm when they teach a class
  • When they sing a song, is necessary to sing aloud and feel happy.

My case of study:

During the class Michelle was interested and felt happy. When teachers ask questions she inmediatly answer the questions, she likes to participate and anwer questions. She enjoy the activities. 

She  follow instructions and helps to others students, when one of the students did not follow the instructions, she spoke in spanish and traslate the sentence into spanish. She likes sing and learn English. 

I can see how she improve her vocabulary and learn in each class. Also, the way in which she has improve her behavior.  She likes to be the leader, during the activities she likes to be the first in answering the questions and the leader.








During this activity, at the begining Marcelo and Raymund were the leaders in the line, after that, Alan changes his position, but when Michelle noticed about it, She wants to be the leader and she got the position number 1 during the activity. So, she always likes to be the leader and the number 1.



1st. Class: Welcome to the Classroom!


It was the first lesson, the teachers in charge were: Luis and Gloria. 

Vocabulary: bag, book, pen, pencil, ruler and eraser.

They started the first class, I consider that was difficult for them because they are the first teachers, and it was the first time that they teach. The warm-up was developed using a ball, and asking what is your name? and children answered: My name is... !  

I consider that Luis did a good job, because he thinks in fun activities in order children were interested in the class. But, he need to improve the voice, and the control in the children. Some of the students felt bored because they did not understand the instructions. 


After that Gloria continue the activities, but children do not follow instructions, may be because I think is necessary to model instructions. She developed the activities showing happiness.  Some of the students do not understand because some of them have never studied English before.  But in general, they tried to do the best, it is normal that when is the first time that you are in front of your first students you feel nervous, and made mistakes. I think that they will improve. 




We need to take in consideration the next aspects in order to improve our future classes: 

-  Modify our voice in order our students can hear us.

- Speak slow

- Show enthusiasm when we are in front of the children.

- Prepare materials in appropiate size, color and shape. 



My Case of Study: 

Michelle did not present at class, but children in general felt shy, and confussed, may be they expected that the classes will be in Spanish. They participated suring the class, when they understand the instructions they follow and do the things.  

Some of the children felt bored, so they requested going to the restroom, or they distractive during the class.

As conclusion, we need to consider that children need activities in which they feel involved and interested. When they do not understand instructions they felt dismotivated, or frustrated. So we need to speak slow. 



My Case of study


During this practicum I, I will have a case of study. My Case of study is SOFÍA MICHELLE ALBERTO MERINO. She is 9 years old and study 4th level at school. She is a very active girl, and she really wants to learn English. Michelle is very intelligent, creative, and happy girl. 

Since she started the shool, the teacher always has been talking with her mother about her behavior, because sometimes she is violent, she doesn't follow instructions, she doesn't work at school, she doesn't want to copy classes neither does homework. Their parents decided to bring her at the doctor, and Michelle started a treatement in order to know what is wrong. 

After some exams, the diagnosis is Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neuropsychiatric disorder that appears in early childhood characterized by the presence of impaired attention associated with hyperactive and impulsive behavior.

The phychiatrist prescribe medication to her, Ritalin. It is a medication that has been prescribed for her in order to help her to stimulate their brain to concentrate during her school activities and her behavior. 

Michelle's mother has decided to give her a half of the pill just before to go at school. She has improve their grades, and her concentration during the classes, also her behavior. 

During this process I will observe her, and how she will pregress during classes. 




Diagnosis Class :)

This class was created with the objective of know what is the previous knowledge that the children had acquired during the school years. Also, It was the first contact that we have with children. 

The first activity was a game in which teacher Luis asked their names, and play the hot potato, children felt shy because they did not know each other. Then, they participated in the activity. Teacher Gisselt prepared an activity about feelings, they participated during the activity. 

 I prepared "Saving my friend Peter" activity, chindren worked in groups and I asked colors and numbers. They answer and they know about it but they have mistakes in pronunciation. 

As conclusion, I think that this class was useful because we can know the previous knowlege that students had acquired in school. Now, we have a knowlgedge about them. 



 Students participated during the activities, we can noticed about the previous knowlege.






When I developed my activity, students show happy.





 I explained the instrucctions and they follow the activity. 






 Children worked as a group, and all the students participated in the activity
